I was feeling very reflective in the lead-up to 2025. I did a lot to prepare for the new year, including rituals like Rauhnächte, or 12 magical nights. I also filled out the Year Compass booklet, which I’ve found to be a powerful tool for wrapping up one year and moving into the next. I knew that I wanted to make time to be creative, so I came up with some “rules.” On New Year’s Day, I scrawled this on a scrap piece of watercolor paper:
Then, I drew these pages in my sketchbook.
This led to the first week of drawing comics, then two, then one month. I felt very accomplished and fulfilled when the end of January rolled around. I collected all of my drawings into a little booklet that I could hold in my hands! After printing them out at Staples, I went to a coffee shop and had a little private celebration.
I’m so glad I decided to carve out this time for myself. It’s shaping up to be a difficult year and having my daily comics ritual as an outlet has been indispensable. I’ve been publishing comics over on my site and plan to keep chronicling the process and my thoughts here!
This is so lovely and wonderful! It reminds me to get back into my own consistent comics. I had a few weeks of showing up consistently, and now I'm willing to begin again. Thank you for this reminder!
